Instrument Care Guide
Take good care of your new instrument to make it last for many
treatments.
1. Soaking: Soak the instrument in lukewarm water and the instrument
detergent immediately after use.
2. Brushing: Manually wash the instrument using a nylon brush
and instrument detergent. Never use abrasives on instruments. Pay
extra attention to hard-to-clean areas. All surgical debris should be
removed. If the instrument is not to be processed immediately after
washing, it must be cleaned, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. Use distilled
water for rinsing.
3. Cleaning: Use a detergent specially made for cleaning instruments.
Never use an excessive amount of detergent. Always clean your
instrument in the open position.
4. Inspection: After thorough cleaning and drying, carefully inspect
the instrument. Check that moving parts function properly and
smoothly. Inspect sharp edges and serrations for damage.
5. Lubrication: The instrument must be lubricated to keep moving
parts working properly. Use a quality water-soluble lubricant as a rust
inhibitor. Lubricate the instrument prior to sterilization.
6. Sterilisation: The instrument must be dried before sterilization.
Preheat the autoclave if possible. Prepare the instrument in an
individual pouch or in a set. Make sure that towels used during
autoclaving are pH neutral and do not contain bleach residue.
Drying time should never be rushed. If the autoclave door is opened
before drying is completed, the cold air will condense on the
instrument and may cause stains and spots. Make sure that the
instrument is dry before storage.
Proper handling: To avoid damage to the instrument, we
recommend that it is used for its specific purpose only.
