Cleaning a veterinary re-breathing bag is essential to ensure the safety and health of the animals being treated. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to properly clean a veterinary re-breathing bag:
1. Detach the re-breathing bag from the anaesthesia machine and any connecting hoses. Ensure the anaesthesia machine is turned off and the system is depressurised before disconnection.
2. Rinse the inside and outside of the bag with water to remove any loose debris or residual substances.
3. Fill a basin with water and add a small amount of mild dish soap or a veterinary-approved disinfectant.
4. Submerge the re-breathing bag in the cleaning solution. Gently clean the inside and outside surfaces. Pay special attention to any crevices or folds where dirt and bacteria may accumulate.
5. Rinse the bag thoroughly with warm water to remove all soap or disinfectant residues. Ensure no cleaning solution remains inside the bag as it can be harmful to the animals.
6. Reattach the re-breathing bag to the anaesthesia machine and any hoses, ensuring all connections are secure and airtight.

Additional Tips:
Regular Cleaning Schedule: Establish a regular cleaning schedule based on the frequency of use and type of procedures performed.
Proper Storage: Store the re-breathing bags in a clean, dry area when not in use to prevent contamination. It also needs to be stored out of direct sunlight and in a room temperature room.
