The CalmDown by KRUUSE ® Post-op Button

Helps reduce stress

An attachable pheromone-infused button for collars to help soothe dogs and cats throughout postoperative recovery.

Having to wear a collar can be stressful for the animal since it interferes with their vision, smell, and awareness.

To help dogs and cats feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed in surgical recovery, the CalmDown by KRUUSE® Post-Op Button is attached to the E-Collar just once with a simple click solution. It lasts for a minimum of 10 days, follows the animal wherever it goes, and positions the pheromones right under the animal's nose.

What are pheromones?

Natural molecules that can regulate the stress level of animals

Pheromones are natural chemical signals released by dogs and cats to communicate emotional states like anxiety or comfort. They play a crucial role in social interactions and well-being. By nature, mothers emit calming pheromones for their young, helping them feel safe and secure. The button contains a scientifically tested pheromone that mimics these soothing signals, aiding in stress reduction by lowering the heartrate*.

Detected by the vomeronasal organ, pheromones influence the brain’s limbic system, regulating stress and behaviour. In postoperative situations, collars offer protection, and by using the CalmDown by KRUUSE® Post-op Button it contributes with a soothing effect simultaneously.

Foil-sealed for maximum potency

Pheromones are highly volatile, which requires each button to be individually packaged in a foil pouch. This ensures maximum strength and effectiveness, since pheromones won’t be activated and released until the foil pouch is opened. The CalmDown by KRUUSE® Post-Op Button has a shelf life of 3 years and comes in table displays containing 12 pieces of foil pouches.

Easy application for rapid effect

Insert the button in the pre-punched holes to any plastic collar with our simple click technology. The calming pheromones will automatically be released as soon as the pouch will be opened. No need for body heat or other intensifiers.

This is how simple it works.

Specialised hole applicator

All future collars produced by KRUUSE will include pre-punched holes*. For collars without pre-punched holes a specialised tool has been developed: the CalmDown by KRUUSE® Hole Applicator.
*Please note that BUSTER Easy Collars and BUSTER Premium Collars will not have pre-punched holes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there scientific research behind the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button and its ingredients?
Yes.
All studies supporting the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button’s active ingredient are published and publicly available. We are happy to share these materials upon request.
Does the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button still work if it gets wet?
Absolutely. The active molecule in the button has a water-repellent (non-polar) structure, similar to how oil behaves around water. This means:
  • It is not water-soluble.
  • The active is embedded throughout the entire button – not just on the surface. If some of it washes off, it is quickly replenished from within the button.
How does the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button help with post-op recovery?
We recommend using the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button for all pets undergoing surgery. It releases pheromones – natural calming signals animals use to reassure one another. These have been proven to reduce stress in both cats and dogs, helping them recover more calmly and making collar use less stressful.
What if the collar causes stress – or owners are reluctant to use one?
We understand your concern! The CalmDown by KRUUSE® button helps reduce stress before the collar even goes on. It promotes calmer recovery, making pets more accepting of the collar – and owners more likely to comply with post-op care recommendations.
I already use a plug-in diffuser – why use the button?
Great question.
Plug-in diffusers only work in the room where they’re installed – and only if the pet stays there. Also, there's no need to reapply after cleaning (e.g. like with a spray). The CalmDown by KRUUSE® button is clipped directly onto the collar, right by your pet’s nose, providing consistent, effective calming support wherever your pet goes.
What kind of pheromone is used in the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button?
The CalmDown by KRUUSE® button uses a special molecule called 2-Methyl-2-butenal (2M2B). This is not a typical pheromone, but an interomone – a chemical signal that can affect behaviour across different species. Unlike species-specific pheromones, 2M2B has been shown to calm both dogs and cats, making it an ideal and versatile solution for post-op stress management in veterinary practice.
What material is the CalmDown by KRUUSE® button made from?
The CalmDown by KRUUSE® button is made from vinyl acetate, a soft plastic material commonly used in products where both durability and flexibility are important. Vinyl acetate helps ensure the button is safe, lightweight, and comfortable for the pet to wear throughout the recovery period. All material details are listed in the product’s official Safety Data Sheet (SDS), which can be provided on request.
